Shavuot

There are ways for us to practice solidarity right now. We can listen, bear witness, and refuse to normalize cruelty.

As we celebrate receiving the Torah amidst the brokenness of a world struggling with rising authoritarianism and rife with human rights abuses, each of us committed to the work of repairing that world is called to think through how these pieces of our lives fit together.

We can start the process of being our authentic selves and accepting others as they want to be seen before we fully understand what or why that might be.

We are called to elevate the difficult truths, and sometimes our complicity in them, in order to “lift them up” for tikkun — for fixing.

These 7 divrei Torah, one for each of the 7 weeks of the Omer that lead up to Shavuot, span the breadth of the entire Torah, from Genesis to Deuteronomy, and come from 7 exceptional T'ruah rabbis who lend their voices to the call for a more just and moral world.

In honor of Shavuot, we present a sampling of Moral Torah spanning from last Shavuot to today.

The best way to celebrate the sixth of Sivan might well be to engage in some activity on behalf of the poor or the stranger or in some justice-oriented project or endeavor. That’s what I plan to do.
